Until then, they offer behavior which may entice him to throw the ball sooner, and whine.  Whoopi mimics a Pointer, Solo lies down, and Red sits.  I (off to the side and of minimal interest because I am lacking toys) could burst into flames and all it would get me is a brief glance at this moment!  They are wound up tight!
